General Admissions Procedures

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and out of school, US citizen, permanent resident or refugee status; meet academic and income eligibility requirements to receive services and for admission into EOC programs. Some vocational training programs require possession of a High School or HSE (High School Equivalency) diploma. TABE test reading and math skills levels are associated with program entry requirements. All applicants must complete the intake and assessment process, provide sufficient income documentation, and attend an interview and orientation before admission and registration is confirmed.

1. APPLICATION

Applicants are required to complete an online application at www.queenseoc.net. If the applicant completes the on-line application outside the EOC they will be sent an email inviting them to take the admissions/placement test. Currently the completion of the application is being done online. For information about our admissions/placement test (TABE) please call (718) 725-3320. Leave a message and we will return your call.

2. TESTING

Each program has an established required score (minimum score) that applicants must meet to be considered for the program that was applied for. Because of the current Covid – 19 pandemic the TABE test locator is being offered online. For additional information about taking the test call (718) 725-3320. Leave a message, and we will return your call. If you do NOT retrieve your TABE scores within three (3) months of the date of your application, your application will be deactivated. You may need to reapply.

3. DOCUMENTATION

Upon completion of the TABE test applicants will be given information as to the documentation needed to determine residency, age, income, academic, and economic eligibility. Applicants must provide evidence of income. If you do not work but receive social security, unemployment, workers compensation, disability or Veterans benefits, you must have the appropriate agency document the amount of support received on their letterhead or agency form. If you receive public assistance, a benefit card, or a recent budget printout will serve as proof.  Applicants who have earned a high school diploma or equivalency must provide the diploma and transcript of scores, or the certificate of High School graduation or transcript.

4. INTERVIEW & PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE

An interview is scheduled for all applicants prior to the admission decision. The purpose of which is to provide each prospective Queens EOC student with additional information to aide a smooth entry into the program of choice. Additional information will be requested of applicants at this stage of the admissions process so as to complete the admission process/enrollment determination.

REGISTRATION                                                                        

Eligible applicants are required to participate in registration. The registration process includes: Program Advisement, Program/Class Scheduling and a Program Orientation.

OFFICIAL ADMITTANCE

Applicants are admitted into available seats in the class or wait-listed upon  completion of procedures 1-4 above. You will be notified of your admission status through e-mail, telephone or postal mail. Individuals that do not report to class on the first day lose their seats and may end up on a waiting list.

DOCUMENTS NEEDED TO ESTABLISH ELIGIBILITY

RESIDENCY

You must reside in New York State. We will accept the following kinds of documentation to meet the residency requirement:
· NY State Driver’s License, Learner’s Permit or non-Drivers Identification
· Copy of utility bill (gas, oil, electric)
· Copy of last year’s 1040 (Federal Tax Form)
· Other documentation as requested

AGE

You must be at least 16 years old and out-of-school:
· New York State Driver’s license
· Birth or Baptismal certificate
· Military documentation
· Other documentation as requested

INCOME

· Proof of household composition (documented proof of dependents residing at home);
· Last year’s 1040 Federal Tax Form; or 4506-T (verification of non-filing)
· Three (3) recent pay stubs;
· HRA I.D. benefit card and current budget letter;
· Social Security Card;
· Letter verifying Unemployment Benefits;
· Letter from employer(s) verifying income for prior year and current year;
· Verification of total Social Security benefits for prior & current year;
· Letter verifying total of Veteran’s Benefits for prior & current year;
· Documented sources of other income;
· Financial support letter(s) indicating amount and date support started;
· Applicant’s notarized statement of income & support.
